Chilean Activist Victor Toro Faces Deportation

On July 6, 2007 Victor Toro, a Chilean national was arrested by the U.S. Border Patrol while on board Amtrak in Rochester, New York. He was transferred to Cayuga County Jail in Auburn. US immigration is now threatening to deport the Human Right Activist back to his home country. Supporters gathered at Victor’s final deportation  hearing on August 26 to express their support. CNPI reporter Jaisal Noor was at the hearing to file this report for Free Speech Radio News.

Four Years After Katrina & Rita, Residents Still Struggle

CNPI in partnership with Global Movement Urban Struggles airs its monthly show on Tuesday August 25th at 10AM on WBAI 99.5FM. This month’s show features Damon Hewitt of The Katrina-Gulf Coast Project, talking about the rebuilding efforts in the Gulf region, and Adam Serwer of The American Prospect Magazine, explorers the inequalities that shape the current US health care system. The show also features Harold Toussaint, a survivor of hurricanes Katrina & Rita, and Dara Kell and Christopher Nizza, co-directors of the mini-documentary “Dear Mandela.”
