NYC Haitians In Their Own Voices

The January 12 earthquake has devastated Haiti and shattered many lives. But here in NYC, Haitians are firmly standing together in their churches, stores, barbershops and other working places as they struggle to help the survivors or anxiously waiting to learn about missing loved ones. Community Production reporters went to Brooklyn and Harlem to speak with the Haitian community of NYC.

Earthquake in Haiti: A Devastated Community Standing Firmly Together

The Community News Production Institute (CNPI) in partnership with Global Movement & Urban Struggles airs its monthly show on January 26 at 10AM on WABI 99.5FM. A special on Haiti, this month’s show features voices from Brooklyn to Harlem, and looks at the limitations of Temporary Protected Status currently being offered to Haitians who have been in the US prior to the January 12 earthquake. The show also looks at the rapidly growing number of immigrant women facing domestic violence.
