Sandra Hines, a Detroit-based community organizer was one of the thousands people who attended the US Social Forum. In this interview with Rob Robinson of the Community News Production Institute, Sandra talks about a range of issues faced by her fellow Detroit residents. She also talks about the high unemployment rate of her city, and the “re-gentrification” happening in many of the Motor City neighborhoods.

Guinea Rewrites Its History

More than four-million Guineans went to the polls on June 27th to elect their future President. Following a half-century authoritarian rules, the nation of 10 million finally held elections that have been considered free and transparent by the international community. Here in NYC, voting was held in Harlem for the Guinean community living in the tri-state area. Community News Production Institute reporter, Abdulai Bah was there to file this report.

The Motor City Hosts the US 2010 Social Forum

The United States Social Forum was held in Detroit June 22-26. The event attracted thousands of people from across the country and elsewhere. Community Production Institute reporter Abdulai Bah also attended the 4-day social gathering in the Motor City. He brings us this story.

The Digital Divide Must Cease

Red Hook Initiative and the Rebel Diaz Arts Collective, two organizations trying to find positive ways to bring resources back into the hands of those who need them, share their story about how they’re closing the digital divide.
