If East Flatbush Ruled The World

Posted on 22 Sep 2010 in Uncategorized

This is what the world would be like if the students at East Flatbush Community Research School ruled the world.

If I ruled the world, imagine that / No teachers harassin you for your
hat / No kids would be saying this school can’t teach us crap / ‘Cuz my
world ain’t no game tryin to break her score tryin to top that / No
drugs in my world cocaine or marijuna / Everyone would be healthy plus
your son and your daughter / No one would be poor, no cost on water /
Make everyone succeed, enjoy your laughter / Look around in this world
it’s pure depression / I try to see it clear but it’s foggying my
vision / But with me ruling I just have one decision / No one would be
hid, everyone would get attention / Insurance everyone would get /
Everyone would be treated equally, trust me there is no regret / Jobs
for everyone from a pre- to a teen to an adult to a senior / For real /
If I ruled the world there would be different fashion / Different
session / No depression / Everyone would love me even from different
nations / Peace, I’m takin a vacation.

Why Can’t This Man Have His iPhone?

Posted on 13 Sep 2010 in CNPI Stories, Digital Expansion Fellowship, Media Production

While in a Verizon store this week, Marya, Manny, and I stood in shock as a man burst through the doors yelling “I need an iPhone!” Not taking no for an answer he strode up to the Verizon sales associate, demanding to know why he was being denied his dream phone.

So then we took out the camera of course. And see it for yourself.

As mostly everyone (besides this poor confused man) knows, you CANNOT buy an iPhone from Verizon. You actually can’t buy an iPhone from anywhere besides AT&T. Why? because AT&T has an exclusive contract with Apple so that only they can sell the iPhone. And for those of you hopeful that Verizon is getting the iPhone soon, maybe try Summer 2011.

The whole “exclusivity” deals that phone companies have with hardware companies sucks for anyone buying a cell phone. I agree with this angry man, why shouldn’t he be able to get the iPhone? I mean, if he was to try and purchase a landline phone, his carrier wouldn’t tell him he couldn’t have the best one on the market. He could have whatever landline he wanted. Why are cell phones treated differently?

And last of all, the Droid X is not garbage.

Guidance Counselor Crisis Worsening in DC Public Schools

Posted on 09 Sep 2010 in Uncategorized

High school guidance
counselors can be the link between high school and college for many
urban youth. But in Washington, DC, the number of guidance counselors in
public high schools is decreasing, and as major school reform is
underway, the number of DC students going to college is startling – only
about 10% continue their education. Youth reporters from Radio Rootz DC
report.
