The Workshops

Posted on 04 Oct 2010 in Uncategorized

All summer long our Digital Expansion Fellows worked hard distilling the complexities of our cellphone networks into four fun and interactive workshops. These workshops are going to be included our Dialed In toolkit that will be completed later this winter. In the mean time, click bellow to see a sample of our workshops.

The Medium is the Message

“A medium affects the society in which it plays a role not only by the content delivered over the medium, but also by the characteristics of
the medium itself.” (Marshall Mcluhan)

Objective:
To convey your picture in your assigned medium

Goal:
To show how different mediums affect our messages

Workshop Outline:

  • Explain the objective: Using your medium and your Instruction Card, communicate
the image to your partners. Your partners will then draw the image based on your description. You must follow the rules of your medium.
  • Split group into groups of three
  • Give each person their Instruction Card: each group will have an email, text message, and radio card.
  • Give each person and image with their instruction card,; they are not allowed to show the image to others.
  • After the first person goes and the partner attempts to draw the image based on the description, they will be done twice more with the other two people’s mediums

Radio Rootz is a great tool to use in the classroom because it gives students an authentic audience to showcase their learning.
