On the heels of Rockwood, Carlos went to Washington DC from February 2-6 to participate in the Media Justice Leadership Institute organized by the Center for Media Justice and Media Action Grassroots Network’s (MAG-Net), http://centerformediajustice.org/home/about/programs-projects/. This gathering of national organizations with a focus on ending poverty, eliminating racism, and ensuring human rights through media advocacy work included groups from Seattle, San Antonio, Minneapolis and Philadelphia. The Institute covered a variety of training and skill-building workshops ranging from the art of power analysis in community organizing to effective communication strategies encompassed in “the elevator pitch.” Members of the Institute also took part in a “Beltway Field Trip” meeting with congressional representatives and commissioners and staff from the Federal Communication Commission.
