Digital Waves Youth Media Festival

Spring St. (A, C, E lines), Varick (1,2 lines)

Hosts: Radio Rootz of People’s Production House, Radio Rookies, RHI Radio and The LAMP

Who’s invited: All youth media groups and individuals interested in youth media—that includes people making video, radio, games, and more, as well as all the people who support youth media.

What: Come join us to celebrate youth media, share ideas, connect, inspire and create! Our aim is to have a festival where youth media makers, educators, and learners build lasting relationships to keep this community innovative and thriving. This year’s festival will focus on audio, in all of its forms and uses.

Check out the youth media entries to the Digital Waves Audio Slam. Come participate in a workshop PPH presents about creativity and youth media. Come meet other young people and media allies such as Johanna (Jones) Franzel is the director of Generation PRX, Tony Schloss is a Program Coordinator at the Red Hook Initiative, Katherine Fry, Co-founder and Education Director of The LAMP, and more!

An Administrative Error Could Close Down a NY School

As more schools are forced to close down due to budget cuts, there is one East New York school that may be closing for a whole different reason. The Brooklyn-based Alpha school may be closed due to a simple administrative error. CNPI reporter Jaisal Noor filed this report for Free Speech Radio News.

Can a Teen Mother Get an Education?

With controversy raging over a North Carolina program that pays teens $1 per each day they don’t get pregnant, teens from a NYC high school in Brooklyn decided  to weigh in ~ dramatically!‬ This radio drama begins with the daunting facts that ring and repeat in a young teen mother’s head.  How can teen parents choose between raising their child and pursuing school?  The students from Brooklyn Theater Arts High School researched, wrote, produced, and acted in this radio drama.‬
