Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, president of Liberia, Leymah Gbowee a Liberian peace activist, and Tawakkul Karman, a Yemeni journalist and activist were all three announced winners of the 2011 Peace Prize by the Norwegian Nobel Committee. But in Liberia, reactions are mixed about the president’s achievement. Reporter Emmanuel Gibson filed this report from Monrovia.

On October 11th 2011, Liberians went to the polls to elect their next president. Preliminary results predict Nobel Peace Prize winner Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, the incumbent is likely to face a run-off vote with her nearest rival, Winston Tubman. On election day, Jacob Massaquoi, founder of African Refuge stopped by the PPH studio to talk about the candidates, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), and what voters are expecting from the next president.
