The Australian state of South Australia and its capital Adelaide were officially proclaimed by Britain. The state of South Australia was founded by British settles, who planned to make it a colony of free immigrants, promising civil liberties and freedoms to all its inhabitants. The traditional lifestyle of the Kaurna (Gowna) people was destroyed within 20 years of European settlement.
