White-American feminist, anarchist and free love advocate Lois Waisbrooker died at the age of 84. Lois belonged to a small group of women known as the “Free Lovers” who pursued sexual autonomy and actively challenged societies ideas of sexual respectability. The “Free Lovers” sought to liberate women from the belief that sex was an all male terrain; they encouraged women to acknowledge their own sexual desires, to pursue their right to enjoy sex and not to be ashamed of their own bodies. In their quest to redefine women’s sexuality, the ‘Free Lovers” stressed the importance of the women’s right to say No as well as Yes.
